BMW Sales Continue At Record Levels May Sales Soar 32 Percent and Year-to-Date Sales Jump 18 Percent WOODCLIFF LAKE, NEW JERSEY - BMW of North America, LLC continued to break its own sales records, posting its second-best month in the U.S., with 20,231 vehicles reported compared to 15,323 in May 2000, an increase of 32 percent. BMW reported year-to-date vehicle sales of 87,007, an increase of 18 percent, compared to 73,449 vehicles sold in the same period a year ago. BMW's all-time monthly sales record was established in December 2000, when BMW reported sales of 20,720 vehicles. Last month, BMW reported sales of 20,012, which was BMW's second best month at the time. This marks the 32nd consecutive month that BMW has surpassed its own monthly sales records. Automobile Sales BMW also reported May automobile sales of 17,113 compared to 13,710 a year ago, an increase of 25 percent. Automobile sales for the first five months of 2001 were robust at 71,520, up 6 percent over the 67,510 reported in the same period a year ago. Sales of BMW's 3 Series models were particularly strong in May, with 10,746 automobiles sold versus 7,199 last May, a jump of nearly 50 percent. Sports Activity Vehicle Sales May sales of BMW's Sports Activity Vehicles increased 93 percent, to 3,118 vehicles compared to the 1,613 reported last year. Year-to-date SAV sales were 15,487, up 160 percent over the 5,939 reported in the same period a year ago. Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales The company also reported May sales of Certified Pre-Owned vehicles of 3,416 units, compared to last May's best-ever sales of 4,320 units.
